Remebering Those Who Grieve
It's difficult to be the long-term support system for someone who has suffered a traumatic loss. Partly because when you help someone who has loss you, by necessity, identify with their sadness, which makes you feel sad. This makes many people wish to avoid being around a grieving person. But social support is exactly what they need- even if it’s a token thought, a card, a call. The key is to sympathize without being sucked into feeling exactly what they feel. Also, gather others to help add support and share the burden. Caregiver burnout is very real and guilt often prevents those closest from taking a break. Burnout can hurt you both mentally and physically, so take breaks and recruit other family or friends to take a turn.
For the griever they may feel trapped by others expectations that they should have moved on already. This may make them stop asking for help and become isolated. Let them know that its OK to be having pain, to have bad days and its also OK to have good days and to let themselves have some pleasure. Sometimes guilt keeps the one left behind from letting themselves live their life again. So, today remember all the people struggling from loss and reach out...if only to say you are their friend and you care.

I am a wife of an Army Officer of 14 years. I just wanted to say that I am so proud of Fox news and their patriotism. During this morning remembrances You were the only Channel that gave a split screen for Pentagon and NYC ceremonies. I flipped to see what the other networks were doing also, MSNBC has some guy promoting a book, then The Today show did not show anything, they were talking about kids in school and issues non related. I am so disappointed in their lack of remembrance and patriotism.
Thank you Fox News! God Bless You all.

My wife and I were watching The Today Show on 9/11/01 when the two planes slammed into the WTC. We planned on watching The Today Show again this morning on the anniversary of 9/11. We ended up watching every other network which had 9/11 rememberance coverage: ABC, CBS, CNN, FOX, FOXNews, but not NBC.
We both remember so vividly the moment it happened on 9/11. Matt Lauer was about to start a segment on Howard Hughes when the first plane hit. We will never forget that moment.
At 8:46, my wife asked me to put the Today Show back on as that was the same time the first plane hit the WTC. So I changed the channel and we saw to our surprise Matt Lauer scurrying around the kitchen with some chef cooking something.
My wife's jaw dropped to the ground when we saw what The Today Show was programming for that moment. After watching this cooking for a few moments my wife asked incredulously: "what is it they are cooking?"
Then we heard Matt Lauer say: "Crescent shaped apple dumplings."
We both chuckled uncomfortably and then reluctantly changed the channel back to a network who was remembering the people we lost on 9/11.
I am the daughter of a National Guard Reservist. For the past seven years I have been wanting to share my thoughts. I think it is amazing that there has been so many people who have showed sympathy and encouragement for those who have suffered from 9-11; however, I seem to think we have forgotten one group of people: the familes of deployed men and women. Throughout these 7 years my life has changed drastically and not all for the good. These deployments have caused so much pain and permenent outcomes. It sadens me when people resond "well, thats what he wanted to do." Please pray for the families of all men and women involved.
I tuned in to watch 911 memorial and you didn't have it. It made you seem anti American and it made you seem afraid to show it because it would show Bush has been a good leader in defending our country. Again, it is as though the major media is campaigning for Obama. I know it was on MSNBC but you all missed it! Forget NBC
I could NOT believe that the Today Show actually had a guy in a bat suit and segments on head lice, but could not devote their program to the memory of all those who died 7 short years ago.
Disgusting!
Never again will I waste my time on NBC!
This is the network that allowed Keith Olberman to APOLOGIZE for a reference to the World Trade Center attacks at the Republican Convention!
Now the Today Show is publicizing HEAD LICE over this somber anniversary.

My brother was killed in the Pentagon on 9/11. It has been so hurtful to have some far left websites spreading rumors that a plane didn't even hit the building. I was there. The plane hit the building. There were many funerals that followed the plane hitting the Pentagon.
My family also noticed that The Today Show didn't recognize 9/11 this morning except for a quick mention in the opening, after which they all started laughing about some meaningless shtick. We've also noticed that The Today Show doesn't acknowledge Memorial Day or Veteran's Day anymore.
We were so glad to see the McCain campaign remind us all of what happened on 9/11 and wonder what NBC can be thinking to allow the embittered, extremely biased Olbermann to spew the hate that he does. Are they trying to appeal to those who believe that a plane never did hit the Pentagon?
I, too, am disappointed that the Today Show did not show the 9/11 Memorials. But I am proud of Fox News that they took the time to honor the ones who lost their lives on that day by showing parts of each Memorial Service and scrolling the names of the lost across the bottom. It's only been 7 years and NBC acts like we should all just forget. Fox even mentioned the soldiers fighing in the war and their families and asked us to pray for and remember them today too. I'm sure as someone mentioned on here that it's all political...they don't want Americans reminded of why we went to war in the first place and how well President Bush has led us in that endeavor. But the most important thing is that we should come together as Americans and patriots and pray that this never happens again.
A proud American.
